I brought Drifter home on September 20th but I had commitments on the west coast that prevented me from starting my adventure immediately. Before I left for BC, I spent 2½ weeks collecting my things from various locations around the Valley and had an inaugural sleepover with miss Mae in the driveway of the house I was staying at. In addition to getting my things “moved in”, there were a few mechanical details that needed to be addressed including a leak in the roof and tail lights that kept going out. Thank goodness for Amazon and 4″ butyl tape.
Now the big challenge was how to get to and from the airports – yes plural. My horse sitting commitments were on Salt Spring and Vancouver Island, so flying into Victoria made the most sense. I booked that fight back in late July and trusted I could get to Toronto somehow. But a ride to Toronto is a big ask and I was having trouble finding someone, even with offers of generous payment. For that reason, I booked my return flight into Ottawa thinking it might be easier to find someone willing to do the drive. Now throw in a 3 hours dental appointment the morning after I returned and it only made sense to drive myself.
Having the rig in Ottawa and being able to spend the night would eliminate over 300 km of travel…and Via runs from Fallowfield to Union several times a day. Now to figure out parking for my 25′ behemoth. Just my luck, Access Storage had a spot I could rent that was about half way between YOW and Fallowfield station. AND they were running a special where the first four weeks were free. What!?
I paid the $25 administration fee (+HST of course) and patted myself on the back. Grandma Marie would be proud of that frugal move, and since she was both an inspiration and perhaps genetically responsible for my gypsy feet, it felt like a fitting beginning.
Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures mi amiga.
Yay! A great figure it out start!
