A Day in the Windy City

A lot of research went into finding the right parking option of Chicago. I knew I wanted to spend time and see the sites and I also knew the traffic would be horrendous. Indiana Dunes, were I stayed on Sunday was an hour away which meant I could get a reasonable start in the morning and have most of the day to explore.

Enter the McCormick Place Truck Marshalling yard. A huge slab of concrete filled with 53′ trailers between the parkway and the train tracks where RVs can park for $38 a day and you can sleep in your rig. It wasn’t pretty but it was walking distance (29,000+ steps in total that day) from Millennium Park and the sites I wanted to visit. Yes, I did treat myself to a bus ride back to the parking lot.

The best part was, the “take a ticket” booth was broken and though I looked, I could not find anyone who would take my money. The gate was open in the morning so I just kept going. Hopefully I don’t end up with a crazy ticket.
